GIVING BACK IS GIVING THANKS

Belstaff will donate 10% of every full price sale to three worthy causes in our home cities around the world. This winter, we're giving back.

Over the weekend following Thanksgiving – from the 27th to the 30th of November, when Black Friday traditionally dominates the retail airwaves. Read on for more about the charities we're working with.

History often repeats itself, but rarely so soon. At the start of year, we set out to support two charities as the pandemic affected the living conditions of those in need in our communities. This winter, as conditions in the cities we call home worsen, instead of offering further discounts we'd like to give something to those who need it more.

At Belstaff, our clothing is built for life. That is, we make it to be dependable and durable, capable to withstand whatever life throws at it. But a jacket alone doesn't tell a story – and as we head into the Black Friday weekend, we'll tell you why.

Although our winter promotion runs alongside offering you savings on a great range of seasonal colours and styles, we didn't want to forget the ways in which we can also try to do good – or give thanks, as our cousins across the pond are fond of doing at this time of year. So while you can make savings to help you get set for the winter ahead, or make your seasonal gifting extra special, we're also offering ways you can do good while buying yourself or someone you love something that's been built for life by Belstaff.

Best known as an award-winning magazine, The Big Issue began in 1991 as a response to the growing number of rough sleepers on the streets of London. Its aim was to offer people the opportunity to earn an income through selling the magazine. Since then, it's grown, and the distinctive red tabard of its vendors can be found in cities across the UK and the world, with sister magazines available as far afield as Australia.

But it's not just a magazine. Founded four years later 1995, The Big Issue Foundation is an independently funded registered charity that works exclusively with Big Issue vendors, connecting them to the vital support they need to enable them to rebuild their lives and determine their own pathways to a better future. As little as £11 can make a difference to their work, paying for an hour's one-to-one support to help Big Issue vendors access housing, finance, health and well-being.

In the spring we partnered with The Big Issue to run a promotion in which we donated one jacket for every jacket sold in store or online. This October, thanks to those who bought at the start of the year, we were able to distribute 350 jackets to Big Issue vendors across the UK. Big Issue vendor and photographer Carlos photographed vendors in Belstaff around the city.

We returned to New York City in earlier this year with the opening of our new store in the Meatpacking District. After we moved out of the Madison Avenue in the spring of 2019, it was a much-anticipated return for us – but in some ways, we never left.

Last Thanksgiving we supported God's Love We Deliver, donating 10% of all sales made in the US to raise funds for an organisation that cooks and delivers nutritious, medically-tailored meals for people unable to cook for themselves.

This winter, we're supporting the New York Cares annual Coat Drive, with all full price US sale donations going to New York Cares – for every $20 donated, a coat will be purchased for a New Yorker in need – supporting the charity in their mission:

"Now more than ever, New Yorkers are counting on acts of warmth from their neighbours to make it through the holiday season. Because of your generosity, we are partnering with community organizations in Central Queens, East Brooklyn, and the South Bronx. We'll deliver new, high-quality coats to residents of areas most impacted by COVID-19 and the resulting economic instability."

The name might not be instantly recognisable, but the logo will be – Germany's Salvation Army supports people in need, especially those suffering from the restrictions of the pandemic. With a thriving home in Munich, Belstaff's aim is to lend a helping hand to Die Heilsarmee's indispensable support to communities across the country.

At the start of the year, we donated a coat for every coat purchased online or in our Munich store. These have been donated to those most in need, and now that winter approaches we're looking to add to the good work that's been done so far. For every full price purchase made online in Germany or at our Munich store, we'll donate 10% of the total order value to Die Heilsarmee.

With just 15€, Die Heilsarmee can provide play and handicraft material for a children's afternoon, 33€ will help our communities provide ten hungry homeless people with nutritious meals, and supporting the good work of a mobile soup kitchen costs only 50€.
